As I am about to embark on my next project, I can't keep help thinking of the feeling I get when I complete the garments. To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed. Maybe it's the thrill of bring the process because once it's done, I feel...blah and empty inside. However while in the process, I think about it constantly.
Yesterday I went fabric shopping and I find, I really love fabric shopping now. I'm starting to finally understand it and it helps that I found a great place that has EVERYTHING and it's all super organized and easy to find stuff. I actually bought the materials and notions all 2 projects.
The first project will be a black satin skirt that is similar to the last skirt I did just with a variation (pg 74 of The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook). This one has pattern alterations in it, so I'm super excited to try it out. There is a third skirt pattern but I am going to leave that one for now and come back to it at a later date. (I have a lot of skirts already and I don't really wear them. Mainly because I don't have any tops for them...LOL)
The second project is Our Blouse (page 88 of The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook). I'm making this one out of the Cotton/Rayon material I did the skirt in. It's lightweight and sort of see through but I think it will be fabulously soft and beautiful with a cami under it. I just started sewing patters with sleeves in the last month. I'm no longer afraid of them and excited about this blouse.
Today I might do the pattern for both...but in the least I will get the pattern done for the skirt. Each day I'm going to try to work on one step of the construction. If I get the pattern and material done today, then I should have the skirt completed by next Sunday.
Also I have started an online store with Amazon to list the recommended sewing books that I have and thought were useful. I'll be posting reviews soon.

I have been meaning to get that Burda book. Do you like it a lot? Is it easy to understand? I need some new patterns to sew. I just haven't been feeling inspired lately. Good to know you no longer fear sleeves. I still need practice with that!
ReplyDeleteI love the book. There are 15 patterns with at least 3 ways of making it. Definately good for inspiration. I am enjoying it so far and pretty easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteI actually started sleeves in a sewing with knits class. Since you can mold knits, it made it very easy...then I graduated to wovens shortly after...a bit trickier though.
I'm starting an online community in the next few days...sort of like a KHK for fashion sewers/designers....I hope you will join, it would be good to keep motivated through an active group I think...I can't find any others around like that. Burda has something similar but it looks like the forum isn't used much and it's not very active anymore.
I'll keep you posted on it.
